The film is based on the life of the great Indian poet, Mirza Ghalib, who lived during the reign of Bahadur Shah Zafar. This story portrays his trials, tribulations, triumphs, and utlimate descent to poverty, and then to prison; and his tragic and ill-fated love with a beautiful courtesan named Chaudvin. The film beautifully captures the mood of the period and the magnificance of the court of the last Mughal.
